Wynwood is one of the top destinations in Miami whether you’re on an extended vacation, weekend getaway, or even here for a few hours on a layover. Located about thirty minutes away from the Miami International Airport, Wynwood is easy to get to whether you’re driving or traveling by Uber, taxi, or bus.

This vibrantly eclectic neighborhood that lies in the heart of the City of Miami, has endless attractions, festivities and fun things to do. It’s a destination where one can expand their foodie palate, experience the local art scene, listen to good music and tap into the inner creative that we all have hidden somewhere inside of us.

Additionally, you don’t have to worry about digging deep into your pockets to have a good time here because there are so many free and/or cheap things to do in Wynwood that could also take up your whole day if you wanted it to.

If this sounds like somewhere you’d like to add to your list, here are a few of my highly recommended things to do in Wynwood.

Art Walk

What used to be a small and intimate setting in multiple art galleries filled with lovers of all artsy things, art collectors, and the artist themselves has now become a huge block party with tons of vendors, shopping, food trucks, and a dancefloor. Art Walk is one of the main reasons this area got its reputation.

On the second Saturday of each month, make your way to Wynwood to discuss your favorite pieces for the night, ask a painter or sculptor where they found their inspiration, or hear the latest sounds and fresh mixes and get your steps in on the dance floor.

Second Saturdays are a great day to explore Wynwood’s Art Walk because it is the only day where you can walk through the galleries at a later hour, sip on some free wine (the earlier you go the better), and hang out with friends making good memories.

Other than paying to park, there is no cost to you to attend. Just be sure to bring spending cash for bites, drinks and snagging some cool finds from local vendors.

Pro tip: My favorite Art Walk is the one right after Art Basel in December because that’s typically when there are a good number of new murals around the scene.

Miami Selfie Museum

One of my favorite fun things to do in Wynwood is taking pictures — the neighborhood is made up of endless color canvases and cool murals. On those rainy days, however, or the over-the-top hot days, the Miami Selfie Museum has you covered with over 25 installations of original backdrops for you to spruce up your Instagram feed or to Tik Tok content.

With backdrops decked with angel wings, covered in flowers, and even some fun illusions, you’ll have viral-worthy content. Most installations are equipped with ring lights and if need be they have tripods upon request. Additionally, if you want to change up your look, a restroom is also available for you to change into as many times as you may need.

Book as many hours as you think you may need because it is important to know that the tickets are valid for one hour. On occasion, if you need more time and they aren’t booked out for the following hour they will let you stay.

It can get pretty packed so plan accordingly. Each ticket will cost you 29 dollars and be mindful that there are only 40 slots per hour.

The Oasis

If you love music and outdoor concerts then visiting Oasis Wynwood is a must for you. This popular Wynwood attraction is one of the newest event spaces that opened in the middle of the pandemic and has quickly become our favorite small venue for concerts.

The whimsical and cool decor is capturing and unique, which is perfect for an Instagram photo op. Not only are you able to see top entertainers like Steve Aoki, Wizkid, Konshens, and Zedd to name a few, there are 6 restaurants (Buya being the top two, and no, it’s not number two) and two bars you can choose from.

Huacachina is an indoor bar that has a unique selection of mixology drinks and beautiful decor that will set the vibe for a nice date night or even a girl’s night out. It can get pretty packed so if you prefer to wait outdoors, the Tower Bar would be perfect for you.

The Tower Bar is located right before the stage area and you can’t miss it because of the structure made of shipping containers and then brought to life with an original mural beautifully executed by a well-known artist, Antonyo Marest, who is originally from Spain. Although the bar serves the same menu the service is convenient and quick.

Candle Land

Candle Land is a place where you can learn how to make your candle with an instructor and assistants to help. Unlike many places nearby, this can be a family-friendly thing to do in Wynwood but the experience is really fun whether you do it with a group of guests 10 years old and older, a date night idea for couples, or even something to try by yourself.

As soon as you open up the door it instantly smells like heaven on earth. The concentration of fragrances blended just makes this experience so much more pleasurable.

If you love candles and want to learn the step-by-step process of how to make them, then this is for you. This experience will cost you $55.00 and you can reserve a lot on their website www.candlelandmiami.com.

The entire process takes about one hour but make sure you have enough time to wait for your candles to set, which usually takes about 45 minutes. Walking around and visiting the different murals or maybe stopping by a bar for a drink would be a great way to let the time go by. If not, they will hold your candle for you for up to 30 days.

PanIQ Escape Room

Does solving puzzles, riddles, and finding clues sound like a good time to you? If so then we suggest you check out this group activity.

Since 2015, this escape room has hosted guests in three different rooms such as the Haunted Hospital, The Pirate’s Den, and My Spy, with difficulty levels from medium to hard. It’s a great activity if you love a challenge, want to do some team building, or want to try something different for couples on date night.

Players will have one hour to complete and the cost is $30 if you do a public room where up to 7 people can play, or $35 if you choose a private room just for you and your crew.

Eating your way around Wynwood is another great way to see what the neighborhood has to offer because there are so many options to choose from that can fit in whatever your budget will allow.

Momosan

@lovealwaysjeane

This new concept was founded by Iron Chef Morimoto, and it is actually his nickname Momo San. As soon as you enter the restaurant everyone on staff says “Irasshai” which is a Japanese greeting for welcome.

To start, may I suggest the sticky ribs which are twice cooked in a hoisin chili sauce (they fall off the bone, by the way), and a side of the spicy wontons which is a party in your mouth altogether.

The Salty Donut

The unique story of “The Salty” is one of my favorites. Believe it or not, this popular donut spot in Wynwood started by selling donuts in their 1950s Aljoa vintage camper in an open lot that was actually across the street from their now brick and mortar located on NW 23rd Street. Talk about full circle!

The classic flavors they started with like the maple bacon donut, the traditional glazed or brown butter, and salt are now accompanied by seasonal selections, collaborations, and now six other locations with two coming soon within the US.

They also offer a delicious selection of coffees like their Cinnamon Cereal Milk Latte, which tastes just like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and teas like the Matcha and Lemonade to wash it all down.

R House

A Saturday night isn’t complete without making a stop to see Escandalo, a “Latin twist” drag show that features a live band playing salsa, merengue and bachata tunes.

The highlight in between are the talented girls that surely know how to capture your attention with their seductive outfits, jaw-dropping flips and splits which had two show options for your time of entertainment.

Whether you select the 7:30pm or 9:30pm show, the live band will keep you on your feet to bailar even when the alter egos aren’t showcasing their skills. They have delicious selections of small bites like empanadas, charcuterie, arepas, and more.

Coyo Taco

Have you been to the hidden bar of Coyo yet? You can’t drive down NW 2nd Ave and not see a long line to get the most delicious and flavorful guacamole, quesadillas, and tacos.

Some of our favorite items on the menu are their chicken quesadillas and guacamole with a nice cold margarita. Well, not only can you get amazing Mexican street food from this establishment, you can dance it off in their “hidden” lounge to the rear of the building.

On Tuesdays is a world-famous party called Rum and Bass which was pioneered by a Miami local and world-famous Black Chiney and Major Lazer selector and producer, Walshy Fire. There is so much talent that passes through Coyo wherever but it is a low-key space where dancers and lovers of music can mix and mingle but only until 2:00am.

Takeaway

Wynwood has truly made the city come alive because there is just so much to do and not enough time! You can choose how you want to spend your day by mixing up activities or just taking a stroll. Whatever you choose, allow yourself to make the best of these moments in our wonderful city of Miami.
