Why I’m Not Eating Any Food For 14 Days: Water Fasting For Health (PCOS, Fibroids & Endometriosis)

Before I begin to tell you about my personal journey and why I’ve decided not to eat for 14 days, I want to urge every woman reading this to take the time to watch the videos I’ve linked to below.

Why? Because about 30 percent of all women get fibroids by age 35 and almost 80 percent of ALL women will have fibroids by age 50. Black women are especially at risk. (Source)

Feminine health, womb health, heavy periods, PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), Endometriosis, and overall health and wellness is something that as women, I think we need to talk more openly about. This information could help save your life or a woman you know.

With that said, I am not a doctor. I’m just a girl documenting my own journey of taking my life and health into my own hands. I hope you find this helpful.

What the PCOS.

I remember vividly the day I marched into my OBGYN for an annual “well-woman” check-up. During the examination, when asked about my last period, I confessed to the nurse that my period had skipped this month (as it sometimes did).

To figure out what might have been causing the irregularities in my menstrual cycle, my doctor suggested doing an ultrasound.

The ultrasound showed that I had numerous benign cysts on my ovaries, but that it was “nothing to worry about”. Spoiler alert — I went home and worried. And after googling the effects of PCOS, I cried my eyes out for days.

What causes PCOS? What does this mean for me?

In short, the doctor concluded that PCOS was “common”. I got no real explanation as to the cause — something to do with hormones, but she couldn’t say for sure. And as for treatment, my doctors recommended that I regulate my monthly cycle by taking hormonal birth control pills.

Put a band-aid on it.

I was young and dumb, and so I just naively listened to the advice of my trusted OBGYN.

In retrospect, everything about that situation was wrong.

If the problem was hormones, why would the doctor then prescribe me more hormones to fix it? Additionally, why was the treatment to normalize my menstrual cycle instead of fixing whatever was causing the cysts and irregularity to begin with?

What I’ve come to learn up to this point in my life, is that western medical physicians practice “band-aid medicine”. Doctors are trained to treat symptoms with prescriptions and surgeries, instead of curing at the core.

The truth is, you have to take your health into your own hands. And you can start by asking questions.

How do we prevent these ailments, to begin with? And if these ailments do happen, how does one cure them at the core?

I stopped taking birth control pills years ago. My period “regulated” on its own. And things were all good in the neighborhood (for the most part).

And then some years later, I started experiencing some abnormal spotting between my periods. After speaking with my OBGYN, she advised that I perhaps should consider doing another ultrasound to check for fibroids and/or ovarian cysts.

My heart sank and I could see the coach Gessie’s (more on her in a bit) words playing in my head (watch the interviews).

Discovering Coach Gessie.

I first discovered Coach Gessie in an interview on The Breakfast Club featuring Dr. Amun and Dr. Amsu.

In the interview Coach Gessie discussed how she was helping women heal their bodies of reproductive ailments such as fibroids, infertility, and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).

The part of the interview that really struck a chord with me was when she mentioned PCOS, as it something I had experienced in my early twenties.

Coach Gessie has a detox program called The Detox Now that largely incorporates water fasting.

Discovering Dr. Sebi.

If you don’t know, Dr. Sebi is a world-renowned natural healer who famously claimed to have healed ailments such as asthma, thyroid issues, infertility, herpes, and more “incurable illnesses”.

In addition to curing such ailments and chronic illnesses, Dr. Sebi also claimed that with his methods, he is able to help revitalize the body’s cells, giving followers of his work benefits including unprecedented energy and prolonged life.

All of this by making one’s food the medicine to support the body healing itself and fasting.

Doctor speaking on how a plant based diet can help manage/rid fibroids.

Ok, tell me about this “water fasting”.

I remember trying to convince an ex-boyfriend to join me on a 7-day water fast. When I told him of all the benefits of water fasting (before transitioning into a plant-based diet lifestyle), he was all ears. But when I got to the part about not eating for 1 full week — I lost him.

I think he thought he’d die something. Because everybody knows that “if you’re not stuffing your face with muffins every 3 hours, you will definitely die.” – Dr. Jason Fung (Jokingly in the interview linked below.)

The fact is that several studies have linked water fasting with some impressive health benefits, including a lower risk of certain cancers, heart disease, and diabetes (1Trusted Source2Trusted Source3Trusted Source). Additionally, water fasting may also promote autophagy, a process in which your body breaks down and recycles old, potentially dangerous parts of your cells (4Trusted Source).

You see, most of us have the false assumption that if you’re not “feeding your body” at least three times a day, it’s unhealthy. But that’s not necessarily so.

In fact, the number of times that many of us eat per day (in addition to the amount and what we eat), often does more harm to our bodies than good.

Water fasting is a type of fast that restricts everything except water. Studies have shown that water fasting could have health benefits. For example, it may lower the risk of some chronic diseases and stimulate autophagy, a process that helps your body break down and recycle old parts of your cells (1Trusted Source2Trusted Source).

Taking my health into my own hands.

The simple fact is that many of the ailments that we face as women (and men too) — obesity, diabetes, asthma, eczema, I can go on and on and on are caused by our diet and the way we eat.

If you’re going to have a healthy body we have to start reconsidering how we’ve been socialized to think about food. We have to take our health into our own hands.

I have decided to take my own health into my own hands and start my journey with a total detox (for health and not to lose weight). This will help reset my body, mind, and spirit with a method that dates back to biblical times — fasting.

this website is messed up! a bunch of pop ups and silly ads keep blowing up all over the screen like crazy, makes it terribly confusing to read, I`m out

  • Diana says:

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
I have a question though, why you write “endometriosis” in the title if there is no one video or article related to endometriosis?
Thank you again for all the info that you shared.

Hi Diana. Because all of these “conditions” fall under the same category and are similar. Doctors also often categorize them together.

  • Adrianna Barron says:

I have been doing the same as well and man I feel so different. I too have asthma, fibroids and I suffer from cysts , and acne galore. Once I thought about dr. Sebi I said I could at least try it and I can’t believe how amazing my body feel. I’m only on day 3 of water fasting I lost about 10 lbs already .
