When you think of luxury, does opulent, expensive, something to be enjoyed from time to time come to mind? It certainly did for me.

I pride myself on being practical. As someone who doesn’t spend foolishly or overindulge for the sake of it. In the same breath, I’m a woman who likes very expensive things, loves luxury, and I enjoy the finer things in life.

So how can an ordinary girl add a little luxury into everyday life without breaking the bank?

Here are 9 simple ways that you can add a little bit of luxury to your everyday life.

1. Sit down for an uninterpreted cup of tea and/or water in the morning.

@kamini_chin

Channel your inner English lady and sit down for a proper cup of tea. The caveat is that you have to turn off the TV and leave your phone in another room — so you can enjoy this petite pleasure uninterrupted. If you’re feeling really luxurious, turn your tea time into an elegant high tea occasion.

2. Bring live plants and fresh flowers into your home.

@thestylebungalow

One of the easiest ways to bring some life into a space is with the addition of some live plants and/or fresh flowers. I recently purchased a plant “the money tree” as my latest plant child and you’d be surprised how even just a single plant can really spruce up space and add a little luxury.

3. Turn your bathroom into a luxury spa and have an at-home spa day.

@taylorlashae

 The average person will spend 416 days of their life in the bathroom, according to a survey of 2000 adults.

The bathroom is a sacred place for many people. It’s where we go to prepare ourselves for the world, make sure we look our best, and often times it serves as a quiet place to take a breath during a busy day. With that said, make it luxurious.

4. While lounging around at home, wear a fancy house dress and/or robe. And wear sexy lingerie to bed.

@aliyahraey

Because why not. If I had my way, I’d spend every minute of my life in sexy lingerie and a fabulous house robe with feathers that sweep the floor. How fabulous!

5. Practice a chic daily exercise routine that invigorates you (rather than feels like pulling teeth).

@yogi_goddess

Perhaps there’s a time and a place to work out for the sake of “keeping fit” or whatever. But must also a time, a place, and a space to luxuriate in moving your body for the sake of pure enjoyment.

6. Eat real food.

@healthy.foodyss

Forgo the grocery store plastic bagged bread for a fresh loaf from the local bakery. Or swap the bowl of fruitloops for a bowl of fresh fruit. Ditch the processed food and indulge in some real food, why don’t you?

7. Turn off the chatter. Turn on the silence.

@izabelgoulart

I am a sucker for a good podcast or a ted talk playing in the background while I’m doing anything. But the ultimate luxury that we often underestimate, silence. Another alternative to the tv chatter is to play some calming or inspiring music.

8. Delete Instagram and flip through some physical magazines.

@tonyaleigh

The other day I came across some old Oprah and Better Home and Gardens Magazines from a few years ago. It mattered not one bit that the magazines were “outdated”. It was just the most relaxing thing to give a thumb rest from scrolling my phone and flip through some physical magazines for inspiration.

9. Get some sun.

@irismittenaeremf

You don’t have to wait for a vacation to get a little sun. Sit next to a window in your home where a little afternoon soon comes streaming in — sit back, and enjoy. Such a simple way of adding luxury at home.

BONUS:

10. Do absolutely nothing.

@juneambrose

When was the last time you did absolutely nothing? I think sometimes boredom has a negative connotation. Yet we anticipate all year long the moment we can go to some faraway place, sit down on a beach, and do just that — absolutely nothing. Now that’s luxurious.

MORE BONUSES FOR WHEN YOU’RE OUT AND ABOUT:

11. Shop local vendors, shops, and small businesses.

12. Walk your errands.

13. Wear lipstick.
