As a long-time Broward County resident (I’ve lived here on and off since I was about seven), it guilts me a bit to admit that I often find myself venturing to Miami in search of fun things to do for couples. It wasn’t until I moved back to South Florida from New York in 2020 that I really started to appreciate my adopted hometown.

The truth is that Broward County is an absolutely fabulous place with lots of fun things to do for couples in Fort Lauderdale and beyond— and I’m not talking just Fort Lauderdale. There are many adventurous, fun, and romantic things to do in Fort Lauderdale and surrounding areas like Weston, Plantation, Deerfield Beach, and Hollywood.

Let’s start off with some daytime date ideas in Fort Lauderdale and some fun things to do for couples in Broward county. I’ll follow the day date ideas with some of my favorite dinner date spots. Finally, I’ll end the list with a cocktail spot or two.

Sistrunk is a historic up-and-coming district in Fort Lauderdale (aka a now “trendy” gentrified neighborhood) that is home to many art galleries, restaurants, and breweries. It’s a very similar vibe to Wynwood in Miami. One of my favorite spots in the district is Sistrunk Marketplace and Brewery. They have a wide variety of food options, as well as local beers on tap.

24. Grub on Some Wings at Smittys Wings

Grabbing some of the best wings in town at Smittys Sistruck (just up the block from Sistrunk Marketplace) is another fun Fort Lauderdale activity for couples. Not only is this place black-owned and a staple in the community, but it also has such a vibe, has excellent service, great music, and delicious sauces to choose from.

I had a date here once that was an absolute disaster (but neither here nor there) — because although my actual date (the person) was a hot mess, I really enjoyed the place and the menu. I would love to go back here (With better company).

If you and your date are looking for some authentic Caribbean food, head on over to Lauderhill. From Jamaican food to Trini food, there are many restaurants in the area that offer delicious island cuisine. One of my absolute favorite local spots is J Roti Delight. It’s not a fancy place and the service is hit or miss, but it’s a vibe, it’s authentic, and the food always hits!

30. Play Connect Four at Rhythm & Vine

Rhythm & Vine is a bar located in Fort Lauderdale’s Himmarshee Village. The bar has a vintage vibe and offers a variety of games, including connect four, Jenga, and shuffleboard. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a few drinks with your date.

The Warf is a popular local hangout that gets grooving early in the day and goes right throughout the night. I love this place because they have reasonably priced drinks, a view of the river, a variety of music genres bumping, and plenty of space to dance.
